Alternative Energy Sources and Their Benefits

Article by Russell Strider

Finding an alternative energy source will greatly reduce the need for making use of your local electrical power company for the major supply. This would lead to increased reduction in monthly utility bills for consumers. However, just about any new alternative energy source has positives and negatives. Listed below are a few possible advantages and disadvantages.

One great thing about renewable energy is that it is generally readily sustained and it won’t ever be depleted. Even more significant, a renewable alternative energy source produces little or no waste matter that harms the environment. Several countries using renewable energy for their major power source are discovering a number of economic advantages in many areas. A great deal of these projects tend to be located away from urban areas and capital cities. This allowed them to boost the use of local services and heightened tourism to those cities.

A major disadvantage of applying a renewable power source is often the problems of producing sufficient amounts of electric power that are equivalent to non-renewable fuels. An additional typical challenge is stability of the power supply. Since the source is made by nature, it will depend on weather conditions. It’s also more expensive to construct the needed equipment.

There are lots of pros and cons of the various power sources. Solar energy emanates from the sun which means it’s totally free and effective. The possibility of maximizing energy offered from the sun to replace standard electrical power is actually a possibility yet there are limits such as rainy areas and latitudes that are not conducive to normal solar power.

Wind power is an effective alternative source of power. There is a likelihood it can replace around 20% of overall electrical use in the future and wind energy is environmentally friendly. It does not discharge harmful gases when converting energy. A crucial element for wind energy is location. Windmills may be efficiently put in place on coastlines and high latitudes. A large land area is required for multiple windmills.

Two energy sources from water are hydroelectric and tidal energy. Dams are the chief source of hydroelectricity and tidal energy relies on the natural ocean tides. Some important disadvantages are that establishing dams will be expensive and tidal power depends on the ocean. Given that oceans are not predictable, this type of source could only function in a very few areas around the world.

The search for a cost effective, reliable alternate power source is taking place daily. Studies are conducted to seek out ways of developing each of them. People must gradually break themselves from utilizing non-renewable sources of energy. It is only a matter of time before these sources are common. In the meantime, we need to do all we can not to pollute the natural environment with the sources we’re presently using.

Common Misconceptions About Alternative Energy Sources

Article by Charles Tetsal

Alternative and renewable sources of energy are just now getting to a point where we can actually begin to reap their benefits and are becoming more and more accessible to the general public. Because if this, it’s becoming far more important for us to understand the differences between myths and facts when it comes to these different types of energy resources. I’s really important to try and clear up any confusion there may be about them and what they are capable of and what their limitations might be at this time.

Below is a list of some of the different types of renewable resources and what they are and what they are used for:

Wind – This is energy that uses large windmills or wind turbines to gather up the streams of wind that will then turn the blades that will then operate generators that will produce our electricity.Solar – Solar panels can work in a couple of different ways. Some are made to use the light of the sun and change it into an electric current through chemical reactions. The other will focus in on the heat energy of the sun which can heat water and then creates a steam that can be used to activate turbines that will produce electricity.Hydroelectric – This is a power source that uses the power of waves or watering rushing in that will create electricity.Biodiesel – Is the newest of them all and this is a source that uses organic biomass, such a corn or other plants to make chemical reactions that will produce a usable fuel for cars or for heating our homes.

One of the more common misconceptions or misunderstandings about the different alternative fuels is that many think that they will provide an immediate and complete replacement for the fossil fuel based energy that is still the major source of energy that we use. Unfortunately since the renewable energy is still in it’s infancy, there is still a long way to go with regards to the research and development of systems that will produce efficient energy and enough of it to make it feasible to replace our fossil fuel systems.

Another misunderstanding is that people think that the cost of the alternative sources will not be that bad and the benefits will be far better. Remember, these sources are still in their infancy as compared to fossil fuels and that means that it will take a lot more money in the beginning to be able to find ways to maximize the efficiency of these renewable resources. So this means that the cost to you and me will be probably no different than what we are paying now. It definitely will not be less, not for years to come. The best thing that would come from them at this stage of the game is that the footprint left behind by these resources will be immediately much less than that of the our current source of fuel.

No matter had bad that we want to believe that there is an energy source out there that is totally clean, there isn’t. That is one of the biggest myths you find attached to alternative sources of energy that they are perfectly clean and that is simply not the truth. Although these resources are being designed to produce energy with the least amount of impact on our environment, the places that will provide this energy will still require resources to help build and maintain the facilities. Also many forms of the renewable resources will not go on forever either. Such as water, with the continued growth of world populations, water will become a scare commodity and could once again start a new set of problems for energy throughout the world. Things like this need to be considered when switching to different sources of fuel and energy.

Although the different alternative energies cannot at this time completely replace fossil fuels they can however begin to lessen our dependence on them. Also, with all of the different possibilities on the horizon, an entire new industry will be created which in turn will create a need for new jobs and people to fill those jobs. So by beginning to turn our attention to the newer types of energy we can not only help to start cleaning up the environment but we will also be able to help a lot of the local economies along with the national economy gain in strength with more jobs.

Economic Payback on Magnet Power System – Alternative Energy Sources For Saving Energy at Home

These days a lot of homes are using energy at very high rates. Indeed people even use electricity more than they need and are prepared to pay for it. There are others who like to conserve energy so they pay less for it. Whichever side you are on there are a number of alternative energy sources that could help you save money.

One of the most common forms of alternative energy sources is the energy from the sun known as the solar energy. It is a type which could be installed in your home with solar panels on your roof. It could be used to heat your home, power household appliances, dry your clothes among others. It will serve as a back up when all the electricity has been totally used up. Indeed a lot of people have developed interest in the solar power system that they use it to power their entire home.

Apart from the solar system, there is another type of energy source known as biogas. Here energy is manufactured from the decomposition of a number of materials considered as waste. The gas could then be stored in cylinders for use in homes. They can provide a convenient way of using electricity and could help in saving cost on the heating if your home. This is the case if you live in a very cold weather area.

Another of the alternative energy sources is the electric magnetic power that has been popping up in various locations across the nations. This is because they provide a unique alternative to the provision of power instead of electricity. This technology actually has been found years ago and now is very popular. Electric magnetic power technology has helped to transform it into an energy producing machine. This has made them to be very much appreciated by people and governments around the world.

There is no doubt that there are a number of alternative energy sources that one can take into consideration. Such sources really offer one a great way of saving electricity as well as saving cost from the use of energy sources. As a matter of fact, it will be very beneficial to you if you take time to find the most cost effective and practical one for your home. Alternative Energy Sources and Availability

We have all heard the back and fourth about global warming and whether or not humans and fossil fuels are the cause, or if the statistics we are seeing are just a matter of standard climate change over time. The fact remains: Fossil fuels are quickly becoming a thing of the past and <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/3724457']);” href=”http://altenergies.org”> alternative energy sources</a> are being used more and more as our society moves forward.

One alternative energy source that has seen an increase over fossil fuels in the past decade is wind energy. Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy. The primary method of harnessing this type of energy is wind turbines. Large wind farms connect to the power transmission network to provide power to surrounding areas. Due to the lack of emissions and the increase in power companies buying back surplus electricity produced by these turbines the electricity production of wind turbines has doubled in the past three years.

<a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/3724457']);” href=”http://altenergies.org”> Solar energy</a> is another alternative energy source that has been steadily increasing in use over the past few years. Solar energy is energy derived from the sun through solar radiation. This is a relatively inexpensive way to harness the energy of our sun to help provide power for our every day needs. Solar power is now relatively inexpensive and kits are being sold that can power residential houses and buildings. There are also projects available that will allow you to take solar powered garden lamps and turn them into backup cell phone charges.

These are just a few examples of the <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/3724457']);” href=”http://altenergies.org”> alternative energy sources</a> that are becoming more mainstream every day. While fossil fuels may or may not be causing global warming, these alternatives can be less costly both on our economy and our wallets. It will be interesting to see the developments of these energy sources in our daily lives in the future.

Practical Alternative Energy Sources for the Home

As Requirement for energy grows all over the world,We find it essential to improve our energy efficiency and to Utilize an environmentally sensible resource that can sustain economic expansion. The challenge lies in meeting this growing demand in a way that improves quality of life today without sacrificing it for future generations. This requires us to use the resources we have at our disposal.

It seems that we are restricted in our Resources of an Alternative Energy Source for the Home. What we Actually need is to be able to Generate our own energy and reduce our dependence on the power company and fossil fuels. We always have solar and wind, But now they have developed another alternative which is the Magnetic generator, The magnetic generator creates free and clean Electricity. You need a battery to get it started and then it runs continuesly and generates electricity Indefinately

Everyone’s goal is to become fully energy self sufficient, free from the Rising fuel costs of electrical consumption, while using the most environmentally friendly renewable clean energy available. Practical Energy Alternatives is a essential goal for all of us.  We are all looking To Find the most innovative cost efficient alternatives for our energy Requirements.

I have done Vast and exhaustive searches for a Feasible Energy source for the home and I keep getting brought back to the magnetic generator. Some of us can use wood or pellet stoves to heat our homes in the winter, which greatly reduces our home heating fuel bills. But What about in the summer when we want to cool our homes or how about just electricity in general. I can’t see any cost effective way to hook a personal windmill up to our homes and I don’t see any Economical or easy way to have solar power Create enough power to run our homes efficiently.

From the first day that turn on the Magnetic energy system we will be saving, both money and environmental resources. Depending upon the efficiency of our homes. we’ll conserve, a Sizeable amount on our utility expenses, thereby giving ourselves a Boost in our monthly optional Expenses. Additionally,We can In reality Manufacture more electricity than we need and meet or exceed those on the appliances we Normally use as the utility costs Grow, Magnetic generator energy systems will actually appreciate in value as the price of electricity goes up.

Now is the time to stop wasting money on your electric bill and have the opportunity to reduce the amount of pollution generated each year, So think about getting your own magnetic generator to create energy for your home.  You can easily install it at home, and you can immediately start creating your own electricity. Wouldn’t it be Wonderful not to have to rely on the power company for all your electricity. Making your generator is also very easy. The materials involved can be found almost In every hardware store.

Alternative Energy Sources

When you see  the word alternative energy sources one thing i want to beluieve come to your mind is the usage of alternative form of energy to generate power for commercial of individual usage. So what then are the alternative sources that avails the usage of man as a consumer on earth.

Herewith are sources of energy you should know.

-. Solar energy

We all know what a solar power is gotten from in our first grader class but what we do not know thenis that is can be used by man togenerate electrical power to\the benefot of man.  From time past people have  been using this form of energy to their best of undestanding knowledge simply as a source of energy for their daily needs domestically.

Today solar energy as become the most recouned with source of energy after the use of fossil fuel curtesy to the use of a silicon made sheet typeof metal called photovoltic energy cell (PV) converting solar radiation from the sun into usable electricity.

-. Wind energy
Wind energy is another form of generating energy and as been in use since the age long years  In BC and beyond for domestic purposes. In our generations today wind turbine ae now positionsed in various places togenerate electical power for industrial of commecial use.

-. Tidal energy

As the name implies tidal power involves the use of the tidal forces of sea level tides as a source of energy this been a good source of energy with inexhaustible suplementation but available to only some part of the world.

-. Biomass source of energy

This refers to the type of energy produced in a biological form, from trees, waste, agriculture and what have you. This form of energy generation uses allows the sun to act as a catalyst to convert carbon dioxide from air and water into cabohydrates fom the chlorophyll in green plants.

-. Geotermal energy

This form of energy production as to do with the availability of energy generating features of the lower layer of the earth crust i.e (energy produced in the lower hot layer of the earth), unlike all the other forms of energy a geothermal power stationis quite expensive to build but is worth the benefits of a zero carbon emission out put.

-. Nuclear energy

As we all know nuclear energy has been in use fo the past 50yrs for various reasons some deadly some experimental, but a controlled type of nuclear reaction can be used as a source of alternative energy.

Epistemology – By: (Me) Nicholas Ellis @ www.youtube.com/sn1pe352 Teach and Learn : The Original Thought – The Distilled (Essence) “If we could produce electric effects of the required quality, this whole planet and the conditions of existence on it could be transformed. The sun raises the water of the oceans and winds drive it to distant regions where it remains in state of most delicate balance. If it were in our power to upset it when and wherever desired, this mighty life-sustaining stream could be at will controlled. We could irrigate arid deserts, create lakes and rivers and provide motive power in unlimited amount. This would be the most efficient way of harnesing the sun to the uses of man.” ( Nikola Tesla, June 1919 ) “Today’s science thinks too primitively; indeed it could be said that its thinking is an octave too low. It has still not ventured far enough into the realm of energy” – Viktor Schauberger Implosion Magazine You must look at the processes of motion in the macrocosmos and microcosmos accurately, and copy them! “The revelation of the secret of water will put an end to all manner of speculation or expediency and their excrescences, to which belong war, hatred, impatience and discord of every kind. The thorough study of water therefore signifies the end of monopolies, the end of all domination in the truest sense of the word and the start of a socialism arising from the development of individualism in its most perfect form.” Theoretical chemist

Types of alternative energy sources

We cannot arrive at a solution for global warming, only if certain countries use renewable alternative energy sources. Although building solar and hydro electric plants are expensive, the cost of using these energy sources will reduce in the long run. On the other hand, the price of fossil fuels like crude oil keeps rising. If all the countries in the world switch to alternative energy sources, the volume of production will increase and this in turn will reduce the huge costs involved in building solar panels and windmills. Being less dependent upon fossil fuels will keep our planet free from pollution and the future generations can utilize the remainder non-renewable energy sources during unavoidable circumstances.

Solar energy, wind energy, biomass, hydropower and geothermal energy are renewable alternative energy sources. All these energy sources are natural and renewable which means they can be used repeatedly. Once money is spent on installation of solar panels, energy from the sun is free, not only once but every time we are in need of sunlight. We need not fear that solar energy will get depleted unlike fossil fuels such as crude oil and natural gas. Solar power plays an important role in electricity generation, heating and cooking. Application of solar energy is useful not only at homes but also in industries. Industrial consumers deploy solar energy to a large extent due to the numerous benefits it offers.

When it comes to energy resources, nature provides us lot of options to choose from and they are also safe for us. Trees provide us shelter and vegetables. Apart from these, they contain energy that can again be harnessed by mankind. Another useful alternative energy sources is biomass which is a renewable energy derived from plant materials. Due to the process of photosynthesis, plant materials like corn stalks, pine cones and others release sun’s energy when they are burnt. This energy can be used for driving your vehicle or to heat your home. Hydro power can be harnessed for various useful purposes. This is used mainly for generating electricity.

Similar to sunlight, usage of wind is also free which can again be harnessed by mankind to retain a pollution free environment. Wind energy is converted into mechanical energy to generate electricity. This kind of energy is another main alternative energy resource that is useful without being hazardous to the environment. Harmful greenhouse gases such as methane and carbon dioxide are not emitted by wind turbines. Modern wind turbines are placed in areas where the winds are stronger. Offshore and high altitude sites are ideal for wind farms. Another type of eco friendly energy which can be used for generating electricity is geothermal energy. In some places, around the world, hot steam or water is found under the earth which can be brought to the surface. Countries like China, Italy, United States and Iceland have unstable surfaces where geothermal power sources can be witnessed.

Sources of Alternative Energy

Article by Mike Batta

If you want to understand the various forms and sources of alternative energy, read on.

Sometimes called renewable resources, alternative energy does not need fossil fuel or even the splitting of the atom to be produced. It is called renewable because the sources of it are constantly being produced. It does not cause the pollution that oil and gas cause.

This kind of energy is not really new. What is new is that we now categorize these forms of energy as alternative energy.

The forms that alternative energy may take are fuel cells, geothermal energy, wind power, biomass, hydro electric energy, solar energy and water energy such as wave and tidal energy.

Fuel cells as a type of alternative energy is usually associated with electric cars, or hybrid cars. Electro chemical devices produce power through a chemical reaction. The primary benefit of fuel cells technology is that power is produced without the production of harmful pollutants. They are still very expensive to produce, however.

Geothermal energy can be a powerful source of energy. It is ideal for small scale use to heat houses, businesses and small industry. On a larger scale, geothermal plants extract the heat from the earth and use it to create steam to power turbine engines.

Wind turbines produce energy using the same principal as windmills. Blades are moved by the wind, and a shaft attached to the blades rotate a generator that produces energy. This energy is stored in batteries. Wind is, of course required to run this type of alternative energy, so the more wind you have the better it will work. Sites where there is a lot of wind, such as open farmland are good for wind turbines, or other locations that cannot be reached by powerlines.

Biomass is organic material that can be converted to fuel. There are many types, such as animal waste, crops and grains, wood and other byproducts from mills and forests as well as from aquatic plants. One type uses the matter to burn to produce steam power; another type transforms the matter into a gas or liquid.

Solar energy is probably the most well known form of alternate energy. It is the safe and efficient use of the heat from the sun to form energy.

Energy from water. Hydroelectric energy is the energy produced by dams. The movement of the water causes turbines to generate power instantaneously. The initial cost of a dam is very high, but after that the power is free. Tidal energy works on the same concept as dams. The turbines are put directly in the water and the motion of the tides over them powers the turbines. Wave energy uses the motion of the waves in the same way.

Those are your basic types of alternate energy sources.

Alternative Energy In Ireland – How The Irish Use Alternative Sources Of Energy

Ireland is currently into serious energy development research in an effort to free itself from reliance on imported energy sources. Over the years, imported energy sources have fueled the country’s growing economy. The country’s dependence on imported energy currently stands at nearly 90 per cent of total energy demand. It is considered as the single biggest import item in the country’s entire history. This precarious situation puts Ireland’s long-term development strategy under threat. The country’s need for alternative energy sources has never been sharper. It does not only need to develop those sources, it also needs to protect its environment and check its worsening air pollution caused by petroleum-powered energy generation.

With the European Union mandate seeking cuts in nitric oxide and sulfuric emissions from its member countries, green or environment-friendly energy is seen as the ultimate response to all of Ireland’s development needs. Hydroelectric power has been proven effective and safe since the 1930s when the country first tried harnessing it. Development more of this kind of energy source is however needed to fully meet the growing demand. With its strategic location on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, Ireland also stands to benefit from wave-generated energy.

Interestingly, Ireland has the capacity to become an energy-exporting nation rather than being dependent on imported energy products. Truly, because of its abundant ocean waves, wind and biomass-producing alternative energy sources, Ireland can utilize these substantial and natural energy resources to become a major supplier energy generated from these alternative sources. It is a potential income-earning industry for the country in the future. For now, the nation may need to focus on its target of producing 15 per cent of the country’s total demand for electricity using the wind farms by 2010. But studies coming from the academe, research institutes and government agencies that support harnessing of ocean wave as alternative energy source, the nation is in a position to jumpstart its twin goals of accelerating economic growth and energy independence.

Ireland has tested its site for ocean wave energy technology in an area near the coast off County Galway Bay. Tagged as “Wavebob”, the experimental site for ocean wave energy generation produces the greatest mass of power waves in the world, according to Dr. Peter Heffernan, Ireland’s Marine Institute Chief Executive Officer. With the right and improved technology to develop the power of the ocean, the nation stands to gain the title as the top producer of ocean wave generated energy.

David Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of Sustainable Energy Initiative has likewise committed SEI’s interest in the development of new technologies for the renewable energy sector. The huge potential of ocean wave energy can be harnessed to considerably lessen the country’s dependence on fossil fuels.

Irish Farmers’ Association President Padraig Walshe, on the other hand, said that with the shutting down of the sugar beet industry, there is an expected rise of available Irish crop land for other uses like bio-energy production. Currently, the nation’s renewable energy production only accounts for not more than 2 per cent of its entire energy consumption. From the farming sector’s view, growing energy crops can only be sustained if it can guarantee economic returns on investment and labour at a sustainable and secure level. As of now, it can be noted that the return from energy crops remains marginal, thus preventing the industry from fully expanding. It is thus imperative for Ireland to do more research to address these challenges.

Answer by Wolver B
The pros about alternative or Green Energy is that it will produce less so-called green house gases like Carbon Dioxide and won’t pollute the environment like fossil fuels do which won’t contribute to climate change. Alternative energy consists of wind power, solar power, algae fuel and Hydro (water) energy. Alternative energy will be plentiful. The main cons for Alternative energy: they aren’t very efficient, wind power takes up too much space to be able to produce enough to power a country as big as the US, plus its noisey and kills birds. Solar power is good but here again it doesn’t produce enough electricity for large uses and won’t work on cloudy days. Algae fuels and hydro energy are only in developmental stages. If any of these energy sources were feasible then government wouldn’t have to fund research, private enterprise would be stepping all over one another spending money on research if they would work for the future and they could make a profit.

The cons of non-renewable energy are eventually we’ll run out of oil. Also oil and coal have high emissions when burned and can damage the environment. It’s also messy and dangerous to produce oil and coal. The pros are: we’re already using these fuels. Because of new recovery techniques we’ve found large domestic reserves of oil enough to last us 100+ years. In addition, oil is used in 99% of all products we used daily. Even if we never had to use it for fuel, we would still use oil and its byproducts in virtually everything we need. Also we have more clean coal than any other country. Personally I believe Natural Gas should be considered a future fuel source. America has enough Natural Gas to last 300 years. It’s an easy and cheap conversion to change gasoline engines over to Natural Gas. N Gas burns completely clean, no emissions. N Gas is perfect for producing electricity and its safer than nuclear energy. N.Gas won’t spill into the ocean. Between using Natural Gas for cars and to make electricity, using clean burning coal for electricity production and oil for other products we could create millions of new jobs, and become totally non-dependant from foreign oil. This would also buy us enough time for science to come up with a sustainable alternative fuel like Hydrogen and Biomass fuels that will eventually work for eternity.

Biofuels as Alternative Sources of Energy

Article by ryan drake

Biofuels are produced by converting organic matter into fuel for powering our society. These biofuels are an alternative power source to the fossil fuels that people currently rely on. The biofuels umbrella includes under its aegis ethanol and derivatives of plants such as sugar cane, as well aS vegetable and corn oils. However, not all ethanol goods are designed to be utilized for a kind of gasoline. The International Energy Agency (IEA) tells us that ethanol could comprise up to 10 percent of the world’s usable gasoline by 2025, and up to 30 % by 2050. Today, the percentage figure is two percent.

However, we have a long way to visit refine making economic and practical these biofuels that people are researching. A study by Oregon State University proves this. We now have yet to build up biofuels which are as energy efficient as gasoline made from petroleum. Energy efficiency is the way of measuring just how much usable energy for our needed purposes is derived from a certain amount of input energy. (Nothing that mankind has ever used has derived more energy from output than from what are the needed input was. What has always been important is the conversion-the end-product energy is exactly what is useful for our needs, as the input energy is just the effort it requires to create the end-product.) The OSU study found corn-derived ethanol to become only 20% energy-efficient (gasoline made from petroleum is 75% energy efficient). Biodiesel fuel was recorded at 69% energy efficiency. However, the study did turn up one positive: cellulose-derived ethanol was charted at 85% efficiency, which is even higher than those of the fantastically efficient nuclear energy.

Recently, oil futures happen to be recorded on the brand new York Stock Exchange, as analysts from several different countries are predicting a surge in biofuel availability which may counterbalance the worth of oil, dropping crude oil prices about the international sell to per barrel or thereabouts. The Chicago Stock market includes a grain futures market which is starting to “steal” investment activity from the oil futures in NY, as investors are definitely expecting better profitability to start originating from biofuels. Indeed, it is predicted by a consensus of analysts that biofuels will be supplying seven percent of the entire world’s transportation fuels through the year 2030. One certain energy markets analyst has said, growth in interest in diesel and gasoline may slow down dramatically, when the government subsidizes firms distributing biofuels and further pushes to advertise using eco-friendly fuel.

There are many nations which are seriously active in the development of biofuels.

There is Brazil, which is the world’s biggest producer of ethanols based on sugars. It creates approximately three and a half billion gallons of ethanol each year.

The United States, while being the earth’s greatest oil-guzzler, has already been the second largest producer of biofuels behind Brazil.

The European Union’s biodiesel production capacity has become in excess of four million (British) tonnes. 80 percent of the EU’s biodiesel fuels are derived from rapeseed oil; soybean oil along with a marginal volume of palm oil comprise another 20 %.
