Knowing About Alternative Energy Systems

Article by Douglas M. Parks

Many home owners seek solutions to save money every month, and the installation of alternative energy systems drastically reduces the electricity bill. The majority of modern conveniences work on electricity, and we can’t live without it. If you install the right system, you can enjoy all the independence for the operation of the electrical system. Alternative energy systems represent off-grid electrical structures, and they have so far proved really reliable and effective.

The power of sun, wind and even moving water turn into electricity when processed by alternative energy systems. Although electricity is produced differently by each of them, these systems all share non-polluting, clean properties. With a wind generator or a system of sun panels you can charge the batteries for your electrical appliances, heat water or your entire house. If sun, wind or water fail, there remains biomass. Bio-diesel generators can charge batteries efficiently, and the primary matter is really cheap if we think that anything organic decomposes and releases methane.

It is important to evaluate the pros and cons of various alternative energy systems in the particular context of your needs. People choose renewable energy for a number of reasons. The maintenance costs are really low; the amount you pay in taxes drops too; you reduce toxic emissions; you add to the value of your property, and the list of benefits is far from closing here. As long as you respect the specificity of the location, you have all chances to install a valuable system that can cover the needs of your household.

You should not overlook the importance of the geographical location and the climate for the correct selection of alternative energy systems. In warm, coastal areas, it is possible to use a combination of sun and wind systems in order to produce all the necessary energy. The wind may not be of much help in cold or temperate areas. Biomass is the remaining alternative wherever sun and wind don’t work properly.

There is a huge variation for the complexity of the alternative energy systems. The availability of battery backup, the conversion from DC to AC and other additional features are responsible for the efficiency of a certain system. In very advantageous cases when home owners produce more than they consume, they can provide to others and make money for the energy they supply.

Question by Cade: alternative energy. I want to be informed, where do I start?

I want to be a supporter for the alternative energy movement but not sure where to start. There are a few sites I came across myself but instead they use the subject to promote political means. Is there a site or book or something that can give me the facts as a beginner?

What are some good podcasts, YouTube channels, twitter/Facebook pages and other medusa? I want to be as immersed and informed as possible. Local resources where I live are a joke, which is why I ask for those above. Thanks

really the best thing you could do is take an environmental science class at a junior college. dont take anything specific, such as strictly renewable energy sources and derivatives.

but my local community college has a green living course which teaches you things about water conservation etc.

what would you like to learn? i took an advanced environmental science class and it was more about things such as how harmful mining is and carbon emissions etc.

one fact i still remember from that class is, if we all started converting to living 100% green it would take 70 years for everyone to be green and for it to take full effect.

but yeah id recommend taking a college course or something of the sort instead of relying on online information as it is backed up with sources. glad to see someone wanting to look into it though.

really the best thing we can do for the environment is educate the people that are unaware of the harm they are doing to the environment, you dont have to become a hippy, but become aware of what you are doing

Importance of Alternative Energy

Article by Mike

Alternative Energy is a term which is used to describe any source of usable energy intended to replace fuel sources without the undesired consequences of the replaced fuels. Alternative energy can help us improve the quality of environment we breathe in. Also as our country has tremendous industrial growth it is very important for us to use renewable energy and help make environment better.

Alternative energy is also known by various other names such as clean energy, green energy and renewable energy. Renewable fuel source includes wind, solar and geothermal. The use of fossil fuel over renewable fuel is affecting the environment quality. The use of more and more of these fossil fuels is causing their depletion and so the price of fossil fuels is rising by the day. By the decreasing level of fossil fuel it can be safely concluded that the future is set to see a tremendous increase in the use of renewable energy. Renewable energy is not as expensive as people believe it to be. You only have to pay for the hardware to harness it. Wealthier countries are already on the way of developing clean energy technologies.
There are a many alternative energy consulting services in the market guiding people through the process of installation and other services. You can contact such consulting services and ask how you make use of alternative energy at your home. Professionals can guide you and help you understand the installation process.

You can also focus on reduction of deforestation and encourage development of forest to balance the increasing level of carbon dioxide in the environment. Renewable energy is a healthier choice. We all need to do our bit for the environment so encourage the use of clean energy. Let us all try to make a better future and environment for our friends, family and loved ones!

Question by Lindsey G: What will it take for Americans to realize that we need to work even harder to find alternative energy?

It takes a war for oil, sending our troops to die for oil, gas prices skyrocketing, proposing to drill and destroy Alaska (one of the most beautiful places in the U.S. who’s ecosystem is already suffering from warming due to using gas), global warming and middle eastern powers and terrorists having something we need from them….all these things we do for oil. Isn’t it time we wake up? We need to work harder to find alternative energy!

McCain and Palin will do it. Palin was doing it by herself up in Alaska. She knows that will change our foreign policy and economy more than anything our useless Congress could do.

Alternative Energy Power

Article by toks jay

In a world were power usage is in a state of over usage what is expected of every consumer is to reduce the capacity of what they consume but how is that possible you ask, sure it is possible if almost each and every home will embrace alternative energy this alone will help reduce our dependent on fossil fuel and bush burning.

Recently it was reported that the world today now use about 20,000 megawatts of wind energy to power major and new project and homes for a better tomorrow last year alone, it tells how popular wind energy is getting day by day, take a short visit to northern part Japan and discover what home and industries alike are using in generating power for own use. Come to think of it over 6 million will benefit from a massive out put of 20,000 megawatts generated globally last year if it were to be for a nation’s subsidy on the reliance of fossil fuel.

However the only viable way to wrestle such a situation as the expensive of alternative energy can be halt if you and I as person will take time out to learn the truth about alternative energy and its most benefits.

Alternative energy reports has it that a pollutant carbon dioxide generation could be reduced to a minimum emission of 25% in about two decades to come if we all embrace alternative energy as a source of power generating force to reckon with.

Come to think of it claims have it that solar power, wind mill form of alternative energy in getting popular by the minute because of their similarity of power productions which means we be seeing a significant change of natural gas and water which both amounts to the much needed form of energy to generate power that work our conventional electric generating plant.

This breaks down to the fact that for us to move this world to a greener state we will all have to put our fingers crossed in support for alternative energy source so as to reduce carbon emissions for better tomorrow for us and children to come.

Have you noticed that in the today’s world that we live in the switch from the focus on energy production via crude or fossil oil is been encouraged in the world over if we want to sustain the lively hood of our race on the face of this earth. Well come to think of it a list of alternative energy resources are now encouraged for people to learn about and make good use of.

-. Coal; this energy can be used to power a lot of things, i.e electrical generators with good attention to its exhaust gas. It could also be used in the form of a coal-gas called synfuel made out of coal.

-. Heavy oil; this is a much a close link to coal with it near solid state of petroleum consistency in a putty form.

-. Natural gas; this form of energy can be used as an alternative to fuel energy if been used as a source of energy to power vehicles from fuel stations.

-. Nuclear energy; this is one sure energy source that has been available for use by man a long time ago but has been to to the rear for safety of the environment, if only we as human can make availability for the safety of its usage it if by far a great source of energy for man.

-. Alcohol and Bio fuels; this two been a form of ethanol gotten form green plants or methanol from plant waste, can also be used as a source of energy to power electrical plants in its simple but complex state.

-. Hydrogen gas; this is by fa the only know gas that can be made in abundance for energy usage if stored under pressure, but requires a huge capital base investment.

-. Solar energy; this is widely known source of generating alternative electrical energy, which uses the power of the sun to retain power into the solar panel cell used in recharging deep circle battery for later or immediate use after the sun goes out.

-. Wind energy; this is another very popular source of generating electrical energy with the usage of wind turbine machines that generate alternating power for electrical use.

Know one thing that all these will not be the only source of alternative energy resources the human race is going to live with in the nearest future, more definitely to come and change the way we view power energy generation.

Alternative Energy Home Solutions

Article by Niellete Philip

2008 was a tumultuous year for everyone primarily due to the volatile price of one commodity – oil. The world is so heavily dependent on this one commodity that any prolonged volatility of its price has a staggering spin-off effect on just about everything else. Who could forget when the price of oil hit an all-time high of 7 per barrel sending shock waves to every other market? And speculation that it would likely hit 0 per barrel only served to exacerbate the situation.

Learn more about renewable energy resources.

As if the effect of the roller coaster price of oil was not enough, the world had to contend with the US sub-prime mortgage crisis. It is said that when the US sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold. How true. Just like how oil is the predominant fuel of the world, the US economy is the most influential economy in the world and the US dollar is the most highly accepted currency in the world. Therefore, when the US suffers, the rest of the world suffers along with it.

The skyrocketing price of oil last year triggered a domino effect on the prices of just about everything else, from the cost of transportation to the prices of essentials like utilities. Thus many people have had to tighten their belts, cut costs and try to earn some extra income. That led many to cut down expenses on their electricity bills through finding alternative energy sources.

The good news is that it is now possible to use alternative energy sources quite cheaply. The 2 most practical sources of renewable energy are the sun and the wind. You can turn your home into an alternative energy home that uses solar and wind energy to power your appliances and thus reduce your electricity costs.

With solar energy, the process basically involves using solar cells to change the energy of sunlight into electricity whereas with wind energy, you will use a wind rotor to generate electricity through a motor. The electricity from both these sources is then channeled into a battery that stores it for later use. Through a battery, you would have a constant source of electricity that is not dependent upon whether the sun is shining or the wind blowing. The battery’s electricity is in the form of DC current, so before connecting to your home appliance, you need an inverter to convert the DC current into AC.

Solar cells can be bought relatively cheaply from places like eBay that sells factory seconds or blemished cells which are just as good in generating electricity. The solar cells need to be wired together in series in a solar panel like how batteries are arranged in a flashlight. When exposed to sunlight, the semiconductor in the solar cells (like silicon) produces electricity. Then they are connected to a battery as mentioned above.

Many people supplement the electricity they generate from solar energy with electricity that comes from wind power. You can either buy or make your own wind turbine blades and connect them to a motor to get electricity. Once again, eBay is a good source for both wind turbine blades and motors. Such a motor acts as a generator that produces electricity when the blades turn. This electricity is also stored in a battery.

Alternative home energy solutions is the answer to save on our electricity bill.

Many people (including myself) have reportedly slashed their monthly electricity bill by up to 80% through the methods mentioned above. If we can do it, so can you.

Question by m_cantabile: How would you convince the US government to fully support and invest in alternative sources of energy?

I know if the government really put every resource they had into alternative energy, it would become possible to commercialize this industry in as little as 10 years. But 2 decades of war in the Middle East have not encouraged this move, neither have terrorist attacks. Greenland already is moving away from oil as its primary source of energy, why can’t we? We have scientists and MBA’s that are just as brilliant. The only good news I’ve heard is that somewhere in the Midwest, I think it’s Colorado, the state returns some money to homes which use wind-powered energy instead of the traditional forms of energy (oil or electricity). Tax breaks on electric cars are not enough, because I haven’t seen that big of a change in our energy resources yet.

Answer by jennifer_isbi2001
Get people high up in the Government to invest in the product. The reason that we still use so much oil is because the leaders of our government all invest in it. If you were in charge would you make the value of stock in a company you owned shares in go down?

Introduction to Alternative Energy Resources

Article by Jane Smith

Global warning and different environment-compromising events has led many to resort to alternative energy resources. Unlike fossil fuels that are non-renewable and are subject to exhaustion in the long run, alternative energy sources are more importantly renewable and are best for lengthy-time period use. Solar, biomass, wind and hydrogen are the 4 major alternative energy assets available these days.

Solar energy involves the use of the sun’s energy to generate heat or electricity. Solar energy can also be used to generate fuel for automobiles. In the present day, solar energy is very developed to incorporate the usage of photovoltaic merchandise like silicon or skinny movie CIGS. The function of solar energy, also known as green energy, in helping tackle global issues like global warming and the greenhouse effect is quite over-rated given the fact that this type of energy is free and yes, it is friendly to the environment.

Biomass is a renewable energy source which is generally derived from organic supplies like wood, by-products or waste, and alcohol fuels. This form of energy is usually a result of plant matter successful to generate electrical energy or heat. Principally, anything that will decompose or might be burnt can be utilized to create energy in your house or car. It may additionally involve the usage of ethanol or other biodiesel fuels.

One other well-liked type of alternative energy is the wind energy. It is principally utilizing the wind’s energy and converting it into electricity as may be seen in windmills and the likes. Wind energy is attempting to obtain more power than solar panels can give, which is discovered in every single place, for the reason that location of the place to get wind energy from is sort of a big consideration in creating the wanted electricity.

It’s best to know that the most plentiful factor within the universe is hydrogen. Thus, hydrogen is another main supply of renewable energy. When we say hydrogen energy, this is carefully related to water. You may have heard of water-powered vehicles and marvel how the expertise ever works. It is brought on by the aspect hydrogen whose properties are very a lot viable for energy generation.

It’s potential although that these renewable energy sources could be principally better off than their non-renewable counterparts, although their use continues to be not in full movement nowadays. Except for these 4 main renewable energy sources, there are additionally other varieties like hydropower and geothermal energy.

There is a growing trend in today’s world towards using cleaner, greener, and most importantly, renewable resources. It is no longer a question of if we run out of oil, only when. And people are already feeling the pinch every time they gas up at the pump or get the latest gas bill.

The result of this trend has been more and more home owners looking into alternative energy sources to run their household on. This is both a necessary step in our evolution as a society and a sound economic choice for home owners today. What are some of the methods that can be used to power a home today? Let’s take a look at a few of the more common choices.

1. Solar Power

Everything on the planet runs on the energy provided by our sun. The oil your car runs on is nothing more than stored solar energy, when you get right down to it. So the move to solar power just makes sense. Solar power can be used in a few different ways. It is possible to run a home directly off of your solar panels, and rely on the power company to provide electricity when the sun is down or on cloudy days. When your solar panels are operating, you feed any energy you are not using at the moment back through your meter into the power grid. This has the effect of actually making your meter run backwards during the day. Hopefully, either you will produce more during the day than you use at night, or at least break even. The second and most common method of using solar power is to simply have your solar panels charge a large bank of batteries that your house then draws power from. Again, any excess energy produced can be fed back and sold to the power company, with electricity from the grid making up any shortfalls. The third way of utilizing solar power is somewhat more complex, and is probably not currently applicable to the average home owner. Using solar power to break down water into hydrogen and oxygen, you can store solar energy in much the same way as oil does, and release it later by combustion or fuel cells. This is really only feasible right for the power companies, but has the advantage of storing up excess solar energy in a form that can be used on cloudy days, ensuring an uninterrupted flow of power.

2. Wind Power

This alternative energy source is best used in conjunction with the solar power methods described above. In stormy weather, for instance, the sun may be hidden, but the wind may be blowing hard, and vice-versa for sunny days. This can help smooth out the available alternative energy levels available, and lead to more power being sold to the power company.

3. Hydroelectric Power

Most people would probably not think of hydroelectric power as a viable source of alternative energy for their home, but if you have access to a source of running water like a creek, you can generate a surprisingly large amount of power with only a small dam. When used either in conjunction with solar and wind, or on its own, hydroelectric power can easily completely replace the power company as the source of power in a home.

Different Type Of Alternative Energy

Record high prices at American gas pumps and continued trouble-brewing in the Middle East, Nigeria, and other areas of importance to the oil-driven economy have made it clear to Americans that we are in need of developing many new avenues of energy supply and production. In short, we need to reduce our dependency on oil, for it is ultimately finite and, frankly, the cheap sources of oil (not all oil-just the stuff that is cheap to remove from the earth) are running out. Energy consultants and analysts are insistent that cheap oil has “peaked” or is very soon going to peak. What this means for us is an expensive future-unless we can find new sources of powering our mechanized and electronic civilization, new sources which are alternatives to oil.

We must also switch to alternative forms of energy because our present forms are too damaging to the atmosphere. While this write does not believe that the global warming trend is much, if at all, sustained by the activities of mankind (in short, it’s a natural cycle and there’s nothing we can do about it except prepare for the effects of it), we certainly do contribute at present to the destruction of the environment and to things like air pollution with our energy sources as they are. Coal is another source of energy that we need to wean ourselves off of-again, it is finite, and it is filthy, and the mining of it is dangerous and environmentally disruptive. We can also explore new, streamlined methods for producing electricity that we presently generate so much of via hydro-power so that we are less disruptive of the environment when we have need of constructing things such as large dams.

Developing nations which have turned industrialized in recent decades especially will need the benefits of alternative energy research and development, for they are presently doing much more environmental damage than the United States. The United States, Japan, and some European nations have been implementing studies into and programs for the development of alternative energy sources, and are therefore already leading the way in doing less environmental damage. The developing nations such as China and India need to look to Japan and the West as examples of what research and development to give government backing and private investment currency to. We could also add great robustness to our own economy by being at the forefront of such alternative energy sources development and then marketing the technologies and services to nations like India, China, Brazil, and so on and so forth.

Biofuels from things like “supertrees” and soybeans, refined hydroelectric technology, natural gas, hydrogen fuel cells, the further building of atomic energy plants, the continued development of solar energy photovoltaic cells, more research into wind-harnessed power-all of these are viable energy sources that can act as alternatives to the mammoth amounts of oil and coal that we presently are so dependent on for our very lifestyles. The energy of the future is green.

Energy is one of those things that people can’t do without. And, unfortunately, the need for energy has placed a tremendous burden on the environment. But the environment doesn’t have to suffer needlessly just to accommodate mankind’s need for energy, as there are other types of attainable alternative energy power sources available to use, such as solar and magnetic.

Solar Energy

Solar is a form of alternative energy power that uses heat from the sun to provide energy. And since there is never a shortage of sunlight, solar heat is an endless source of safe alternative energy for anyone who wants to take advantage of it.

Solar energy has been around since the dawn of time. But today’s technological advances in solar panels make it easier than ever to use the sun as an alternative energy power source. Solar energy can be witnessed everyday on a small scale basis in things such as solar powered calculators.

The use of solar panels on your home will not completely replace the use of electricity, but they will reduce the amount of electricity you consume. These panels will also conserve energy, and ease the burden on the environment. However, not everyone can afford to harness the power of the sun in their homes, as solar panels are terribly expensive to install.

Magnetic Energy Generators

Using magnets is a more affordable option to solar panels as an alternative energy power.  Magnets use magnetic currents to generate electrical power. This type of energy is abundant, affordable, and harmless to the environment. There are several manuals available to teach you how to build a low cost magnetic energy generator for your home.

While the use of fossil fuels may not ever be eliminated, they can be used in moderation if alternative energy power sources such as solar and magnetic are utilized by more people.
