The first Brabus EV sedan, called the “High-performance Four-wheel-drive Full Electric Car,” is based on the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. it features an all new EV system developed to demonstrate a peak combined 320 kW (430 hp) and 3,200 Nm (2,350 ft.-lbs.) torque from pure electric power using four direct-drive Protean Electric motors, one in each wheel.

A second Brabus hybrid drive vehicle, called the “Technology Project Hybrid,” also made its debut at the show. Powering the rear wheels in combination with the internal combustion engine, the Protean Electric in-wheel motors each add 80 kW (110 hp) and 800 Nm (590 ft.-lbs.) of peak torque.

This gives the sedan a combined electric motor and internal combustion engine acceleration of 0-100 km/hr (0-62 mph) in 7.4 seconds and a combined electric motor and internal combustion engine acceleration of 60-120 km/hr (37-75 mph) of 5.6 seconds.

Beyond performance, the high efficiency and regenerative braking capability of the Protean Drive system in the hybrid car improve fuel economy about 30 percent vs. a comparable vehicle not equipped with the Protean Electric in-wheel motors.

In addition to Protean Electric, Brabus also has worked with Boston Power, a leading maker of lithium-ion batteries. the EV and hybrid vehicles also represent the debut of Boston Power’s liquid-cooled module, Swing Medley.

Brabus is well known for its discerning use of only the best technology to perfect the performance of its elite supercars.

Late last week Audi released some teaser sketches of its A2 concept car due at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto show, now less than a week away.Due to be positioned between the A1 minicar and upcoming Audi A3 Sedan compact car, the new A2 is spiritual successor to the original A2, an aluminum-bodied, ultra-efficient subcompact that went on sale in Europe in 1999.the early information and sketches didn’t reveal many details about the A2 Concept but we now know it also uses aluminum construction, and carbon fiber elements too. this helps keep the weight quite low, at 2,535 pounds. That’s more than the original A2 but certainly light by electric car standards. That aluminum body is a svelte 12.47 feet long, 5.54 feet wide and 4.89 feet high, but Audi promises impressive interior space.the electric drivetrain uses a 114 horsepower, 119 pound-feet of torque electric motor, with power going to the front wheels. Performance is brisk at 9.3 seconds to 60 mph, and top speed is limited to 93 mph.a lithium-ion battery under the floor gives enough charge for 124 miles of range, and can be charged in as little as 1.5 hours using a custom 400 volt charger. Recharging from a regular wall outlet takes 4 hours.

The A2 concept will showcase Audi’s new dynamic lighting technology too, known as matrix beam lighting. It uses microreflectors to direct a high resolution and low-glare light pattern onto the road. LED lighting also runs the length of the body and permeates through into the interior.High-tech rear lighting adapts its illumination depending on visibility and weather conditions, and a laser light unit at the rear can even project a warning triangle onto the road behind the car.the interior itself is stark and modern as you’d expect from a concept car. The story for the sequel departures from the first “Cars” movie, released five years ago, a move that has proven to be unpopular with the critics. the second installment is not just about cars this time around; it’s also about the negative impacts of big bad oil companies, according to its creator.

Lightning McQueen and his trusty zany tow truck friend, Mater, head to the World Grand Prix to compete for the world’s fastest car title. the movie centers on Mater when he gets involved in an international espionage.

During the three races, which take place in Tokyo, Italy and London, Mater joins a secret agent in the quest to crack a global conspiracy oil ring. they have to save the living car world from big Oil, figuratively and literally, says director John Lasseter.

Speculations have been made over the movie supposedly carrying an overly liberal message. the blog the Lonely Conservative claimed that Hollywood is not admitting that they are “trying to indoctrinate our children with left wing propaganda.”

The concern was raised when the Pixar director revealed during an interview with the Wall Street Journal that the big Oil is more than just a villain in “Cars;” he is also the villain today.

“we revamped the whole story, the whole bad-guy arc. to me, there always needs to be a logic to our movies. no matter what subject matter it is, they have to be logical for the world we’re creating,” said John Lasseter. “I kept thinking about, ‘OK. a spy movie in the world where cars are alive. What would be a really good kind of über bad guy? Who is an über bad guy?’ I kept going to big oil. This is before what happened in the Gulf of Mexico.”

Lasseter emphasized that it’s logical to have an environmental twist in the movie by advocating fuel alternatives such as electricity and solar power.

He said, “why isn’t alternative fuel more… why isn’t everybody jumping on that bandwagon? it makes so much sense: Electricity, solar, whatever. There’s ethanol. There’s all this stuff you could be doing. And so I thought, well, that could be really cool in that you could have big oil versus alternative fuel. That’s when we kind of crafted the bad guy’s story.”

He continued, “the greatest bad guys, you understand where they’re coming from. they believe they’re doing the right thing. sometimes it’s for greed, sometimes it’s for other reasons, but they are what they call the center of good. they always believe they’re doing the right thing.”

His environmental agenda and his portrayal of oil companies as a villain is no surprise to the industry, said bill Bush, a spokesman for the American Petroleum Institute said, according to WSJ.

“we understand movies need villains but hope people attending, children and adults alike, would come to appreciate the world needs oil as well as alternatives,” said Bush. “the benefits of oil are enormous, and people in the U.S. oil and natural gas industry work extremely hard to provide oil products to Americans.”

New Delhi: Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Jaipal Reddy today said his ministry will keep in view the nod to Cairn-Vedanta deal and the recent hike in fuel prices whiletaking the final call on ONGC’s  follow-on public offer after consulting Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

“Keeping all these developments in view, including recent increase in petrol prices and this (approval to Cairn-Vedanta deal), we will take a view (on FPO) in consultation withFinance Minister Pranab Mukherjee,” Reddy told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).

Endorsing the recommendations of a group of minister, CCEA today approved the Cairn-Vedanta deal but with conditions.

On Wednesday, the Board of Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) approved the red herring prospectus (RHP) for its Rs 11,500 crore follow-on public offer (FPO). It is now awaitingthe nod of the Department of Disinvestment for filing papers with market regulator Sebi.the government plans to sell 5 percent, or 427.77 million shares, in ONGC through the FPO. Post-FPO, the government’s stake would come down to 69.14 percent from theexisting 74.14 percent.

An ONGC official had said yesterday that “the FPO will hit the market in 3 weeks from the filing of DRHP”. the share sale was originally planned for 2010-11, but was deferred to April 5 as the company did not have adequate number of independent directors on its board. the FPO was then planned for 5 July  but was again deferred due to the same reason.

Earlier this month, the government appointed three independent directors, including former RBI Deputy Governor Usha Thorat, paving the way for the sale of shares in the state-owned firm.

ONGC in February had received the report of independent auditors, who certified the company’s oil and gas reserves, a mandatory requirement for explorers making public offers. Bank of America Corp, Nomura Holdings, HSBC Holdings, JM Financial Services, Citigroup inc and Morgan Stanley are managing the FPO.

Argonne, Illinois (CNN) — nobody likes soaring gas prices — not motorists, not consumers, not business owners, not elected officials. now, even a Saudi prince, whose family’s massive wealth is built on oil, is complaining about the high price of gasoline.

Recently, Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria that oil prices are now so high that they are creating powerful incentives for Americans to find new, green sources of homegrown energy. "we don’t want the West to go and find alternatives, because, clearly, the higher the price of oil goes, the more they have incentives to go and find alternatives," he said. In response, he called on the petroleum-producing countries of the Middle East to cut the price of crude oil.

But oil producers should not assume that Americans will lose interest in alternative energy sources if gas prices come down. even if oil prices tumble, American scientists and engineers will keep on seeking better, greener, cheaper ways to generate and store energy, working toward our goal of American energy independence.

Admittedly, we have a long way to go. Oil consumption in the United States continues to outpace domestic production. U.S. oil production peaked in 1970, and today 51% of our oil is imported. More than 70 percent of that oil is used for transportation.

Looking to the future, we expect American energy demand to continue rising, and petroleum prices are likely to keep on going up as demand for oil increases in China, India and other developing economies around the world.

That’s bad news for the American economy, and it’s bad news for American security. we cannot expect to remain a strong, vibrant and globally competitive nation if we do not end our dependence on foreign oil.

I admit, I’m strongly biased on this topic. I am the director of Argonne National Laboratory, known for our research on new ways to improve the fuel economy of our cars and trucks and to produce affordable, plentiful, clean energy from plants, water and sunlight. Just this year, that research demonstrated some of its real-world value when our safe, long-lasting lithium-ion battery materials were put to use inside the Chevy Volt.

Building on fundamental scientific discoveries, we are working to develop innovative technologies that will power our vehicles and reduce our reliance on petroleum while creating new industries and new jobs.

Today, the United States is at the forefront of international lithium-ion battery research, and new battery manufacturing plants are opening across the country.

The National Venture Capital Association reports that in 2005, battery-related startups drew about $51 million in venture investment; last year, that investment jumped to $205 million. Anthony Earley, chairman and CEO of DTE Energy and a Ford board member, has predicted that electric cars and related battery development will create 40,000 new jobs in Michigan alone by 2020.

America’s energy technology innovations are not limited to advanced batteries. Researchers in the Department of Energy’s national laboratory system are joining forces with colleagues in academia and private industry to make great strides in solar energy and in biofuels. Those innovations are helping to generate new, clean energy across the nation. In just one example, GM recently announced plans to install six acres of solar panels to help power its Detroit-Hamtramck plant, the home of the Volt — producing enough electricity to charge 150 electric vehicles every day for a year.

It’s true that the recent spike in gasoline prices has increased media attention on alternative, homegrown energy sources. But the national laboratory’s energy research programs were created long before gasoline prices brushed $4 a gallon, and our scientists are going to keep on working toward our goal of American energy independence and security — whether the price of gas rises or plummets.

In 2008, America imported 11 million barrels of oil a day. President Obama has set a goal for 2020 of cutting those imports by one-third. I believe we can reach that goal, but only if we stay on the right path and succeed in creating new, affordable energy technologies that can persuade millions of American consumers to trade in their gas guzzlers for clean, efficient, reliable electric cars.

Right now, we have real gaps in our energy research portfolio. we cannot fill those gaps without large-scale, long-term, well-funded and well-coordinated research programs that bring together the best and most innovative scientists and engineers in academia, industry and the national laboratories.

It won’t be easy. But I am optimistic that American researchers, backed by the American people, can find innovative, cost-effective ways to end our dependence on imported oil and keep our cars and trucks running on energy generated right here at home.

I presume you've already used the Fairy spell in Mido to get the downthrust.

To get the upthrust, cast a Jump spell in the section of Darunia near the locked door. In this town, you can jump on the roofs. Jump to the roof of the house with the locked door (you may need to head to the left to find a suitable house to jump on), stand on the chimney, and hold DOWN. you should fall into the house, and you can talk to the swordsman there.
