Mary asks…
I need plans to build a wheel chair for a cat.?
I have an 18 yr old Simease who has had a stroke. he’s old and loveable and was in great shape for his age before the stroke. His front legs work and one of his back legs sort of works.
I’m on SS and can not afford 3 to 5 hundred for a cat size chair. But I have the time to build one. and I need to find plans to build a cat wheel chair from either aluminum or copper tubing or PVC (water line plumbing)

Here is a hyperlink to a site I think you might find helpful. Good luck. I really think that it should be doable. I would think 4 wheels would be better than 2……perhaps a sling in the middle that the cat would lay on…….anyway, talk with the people at this link ……… Www.handicappedpets.com/Articles/catcart.html

Helen asks…
how do you get electricity from water wheels?
do you need a motor? can i use wires?
i plan to do this..
stick the magnet to the turbine’s channel then stick the wire there,
will that work? will the magnet be able to conduct the electricity?
admin answers:
The simplest way to demonstrate this is to use a small DC electric motor (found in almost any moving toy) as a generator.
Available here:

Attach the shaft of the motor directly to the axle of the water wheel, or use a system of gears or pulleys to tranfer the motion while increasing the speed.

Daniel asks…
can I use a bio-wheel filter for my aquarium?
I plan on getting my first cichlid.I have kept the most difficult to maintain tropical fish but never a cichlid so my next challenge is a discus.I know they are very sensitive fish. The main concern for these fish is water quality so thats why i am asking this question.

You could, but be prepared to check it often. These add “extra” biological filtration to remove the ammonia and nitrite from the water as long as the wheel is spinning and all the surfaces of the wheel stay wet. If the wheel stops turning (which it does when crud builds up where the ends of the wheel sit) parts will dry out, and the bacteria in those sections will die.
I’d suggest keeping a second filter on the tank as a backup. AquaClear filters are cheap, but use a large foam pad for filtering the water, and the foam adds a lot of surface area as well for bacteria to colonize. To get the maximum surface area (and flexibility with the media you use) look into canister filters.
See this link for comparisons of types of filters: http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Filtration.html
